Breast Reconstruction - DIEP & TRAM Flap

Breast Reconstruction - DIEP & TRAM Flap

Procedure Description

Breast reconstruction with DIEP or TRAM Flap uses skin and fat from the abdominal area to create a natural breast. The graft lasts a lifetime, changes with body weight, and has a natural texture. Includes microsurgical vessel reconnection.

Benefits

  • Absolutely natural result (texture and look)
  • Permanent result without foreign bodies (implants)
  • Simultaneous abdominoplasty (tummy tuck benefit)
  • Preservation of sensation (in some cases)
  • The breast ages naturally with the body

Recovery Time

Hospitalization 3-6 days. Mobilization in 3-4 days. Full recovery and return to work in 2-3 months. Elastic belt for 4 weeks.

Procedure Steps

  • Harvesting flap from the abdomen
  • Microsurgical vessel anastomosis (DIEP) or transfer (TRAM)
  • Shaping of the new breast
  • Abdominal closure (like tummy tuck)
  • Duration 6-8 hours

Complications

  • Pain/swelling in the abdomen
  • Fluid collection
  • Wound dehiscence
  • Fat cysts (5%)
  • Possible hernia (more common in TRAM)
